Introduction
My philosophy of teaching is that every student is capable of learning and growing, and every student should have a safe space in which to learn. To help achieve this, I have identified several professional goals:
- Be a devoted educator
- Inspire all students
- Involve parents
By focusing on these professional goals, I know that not only I, but my students, will grow in leaps and bounds throughout the school year.
Be a devoted educator
I became a teacher because I love sharing knowledge with students and helping them realize their own potential. I want to be devoted to my students and their education, keeping that as my number one focus. I want to find a teaching style that not only works for me, but is helping my students reach new heights.
Inspire all students
My ultimate goal is to inspire all of my students to do their personal best, both in and out of school. A big part of this goal is by becoming a role model for my students, to show them first-hand the importance of hard work and dedication. By seeing my actions, hearing my words, and learning from my past, I hope to inspire students to do everything that they can to be upstanding students and citizens in a challenging and ever-changing world. Despite what may happen outside of school, I want my students to be inspired to participate, focus, and to become a lifelong learner.
Involve Parents
Research has proven time and again how important parent involvement is in a student’s education. I want to involve parents in as many ways as possible, more than just making copies and supervising field trips. I want to work with parents to understand what they can do at home to help their children succeed in class. I also want to get parents in the classroom as part of our regular routine. Parents can be involved in reading groups, special presentations, projects, or just as a presence in the classroom. Having parents involved with help students to see that education goes beyond the classroom and into their everyday lives. It may also help to strengthen the bond between many students and their parents, and potentially give students an extra role model or positive influence in their life.
Conclusion
I will try to keep these goals in mind throughout the school year, which will help me grow as a teacher and as a person. I love getting to share my passion for learning and life with my students, and my students teach me something new every day. Where one of us grows, all of us seem to follow suit and I love watching how they develop and grow into caring, passionate citizens and community members. These goals will help be become the person I need to be to help my students be who they can be.
